Inferring Maximally Invertible Bi-grammars for Example-Based Machine Translation

چکیده

This paper discusses inference strategies of context-free bi-grammars for example based machine translation (EBMT). The EBMT system EDGAR is discussed in detail. The notion of invertible context-free feature bi-grammar is introduced in order to provide a means to decide upon the degree of ambiguity of the inferred bi-grammar. It is claimed that a maximally invertible bi-grammar can enhance the precision of the bilingual alignment process, reduce the complexity of the inferred grammar, and uncover inconsistencies in bi-corpora. This paper describes preliminary reeections and thus no empirical evaluation of the method is provided.

Example-based bi-directional Chinese-English machine translation with semi-automatically induced grammars

We have previously developed a framework for bi-directional English-to-Chinese/Chineseto-English machine translation using semi-automatically induced grammars from unannotated corpora. The framework adopts an example-based machine translation (EBMT) approach. This work reports on three extensions to the framework. First, we investigate the comparative merits of three distance metrics (Kullback-...

Some Rationales and Methodologies for Example-based Approach

Example-based machine translation was first proposed by the author at the International NATO Symposium on Artificial and Human Intelligence held in Lyon, France, October, 1981, and the paper was included in the book: Artificial and Human Intelligence, NorthHolland, 1984 [1]. In this paper I discussed the followings in the context of comparing example based translation with ordinary machine tran...

Inducing probabilistic invertible translation grammars from aligned texts

This paper presents an algorithm for extracting invertible proba-bilistic translation grammars from bilingual aligned and linguistically bracketed text. The invertibility condition requires all translation ambiguities to be resolved in the-nal translation grammar. The paper examines the complexity of inducing translation grammars and proposes a number of heuristics to reduce the the theoretical...

Transfer-Rule Induction for Example-Based Translation

Previous work has shown that grammars and similar structure can be induced from unlabeled text (both monolingually and bilingually), and that the performance of an example-based machine translation (EBMT) system can be substantially enhanced by using clustering techniques to determine equivalence classes of individual words which can be used interchangeably, thus converting translation examples...
